Over 3,900 m² of land freed from the threat of mines in Pescadito

More than 100 inhabitants of this indigenous territory in the municipality of Acandí, north-west of Colombia, are celebrating: HI's demining teams have now finished clearing 3,932 m² of their land, removing the threat of potential explosive devices and making it safe for use again. This land is vital to the community for hunting and collecting medicinal plants.

Regaining her independence through mobility

Veronika, 28, suffers from paralysis. She was having great difficulty getting around. A few weeks ago, her life was transformed when she was given a tricycle! Being mobile has made her more independent and helped her to escape the social isolation that had suffered from for so long! Today, thanks to the tricycle, she can finally look forward to a better future.

Helping to change perceptions of disability

Norcia, 17, has been deaf since birth. After initially struggling to keep up at school, she is now benefiting from a more inclusive approach to education. As well as attending school, Norcia in an inclusion ambassador for HI, a role she takes very seriously. She sees it as a way of changing mentalities in Madagascar!
